Understanding TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program
Before the creators rewards program, was the Creators Fund. However, creators were earning as little as $20 to $40 per a million views leading to a lot of discontent about the program.
TikTok heard the complaints and in came the Creator Rewards Program. Launched in March 2024 after a successful invite-only beta phase. The program promises significantly higher earnings if you meet the requirements.
Yes, the requirements because TikTok made it a lot more stringent. Before you can get into the new Creators Rewards program, you must pass these five criteria:
- You must have a US, UK, Brazil, Japan, France, Germany, and South Korea TikTok account.
- You must have at least 10,000 followers on TikTok.
- You must have at least 100,000 video views in the past 30 days.
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- Your account must be in good standing and adhere to the platform’s guidelines.
A quick reminder though, these are requirements to be eligible for the program. There are other guidelines to be eligible for payment. The factors that actually count as qualified views.
The payment is based on the Revenue Per Mille (RPM) which is often around $0.40 but can go up with a higher video completion rate and average watch time.
TikTok is trying to encourage longer content (longer than 1 minute) with their Creators Rewards Program only accepting videos above this threshold.
Now this may seem weird but before your video qualifies, it must have at least 1000 views from the For You page. No advertisement or misinformation and must only be original content.
So now you know what qualified views means.
Eligible creators will see the Creators Reward option on the app (not visible from TikTok website) from where they can submit their application. The process can be completed within a short time.
Not yet available in your country? Don’t worry, the program is expanding fast and would be in your region soonest.
How Much Does TikTok Pay Per 1 Million Views?
Now to the main issue — how much TikTok truly pays for a million views. For starters, TikTok pays per 1000 views which is known as Revenue Per Mille (RPM).
Once your video qualifies after joining the rewards program you can see your estimated payout on the rewards page. Typically in RPM. To calculate the estimated amount per million views, simply multiply your RPM by 1000.
Generally, creators earn between $150 to $700 from 1000 views on the platform. With some even crossing the $1000-mark threshold.
While TikTok did not specifically mention the factors that can improve your RPM, factors like your niche, viewer’s location, viewer retention and completion rate, have been speculated to help.
Tips To Maximize Your Earnings Per View
Want to improve your RPM and get your earnings above the average? Here are some quick tips you can start implementing right now. Some of them are so easy to implement that you may even doubt its effectiveness. However, the top earners on the platform do them.
1. Make Engaging Videos
Stop trying to beat the algorithm and just make videos your audience truly wants to watch. Employ the help of professional TikTok video editors if possible.
The aim is to create viral-worthy videos that will get attention and keep them. With this, your RPM will increase due to the viewer retention rate and virality.
2. Create for High Niche Regions
Optimize your content for high niche regions like the US, UK, and Canada. TikTok has stated that your RPM is based on what they get from advertisers, and advertisers generally pay top bucks to reach viewers from these countries.
3. Create a Viewer Retention Strategy
You need to create a technique to retain viewer attention. Keeping viewers engaged throughout your videos will tilt the algorithm to your favour as TikTok starts to show your content to more people.
One way to do this is to use a great hook within the first 5 seconds and then ensure to use pattern interrupt at intervals to keep them engaged.
Conclusion
TikTok have changed their rewards program to the new and improved Creator Rewards Program with the outdated Creators Fund set to be retired on December 16, 2024.
The new payment structure promises a significantly higher pay per 1 million views, enough to get creators excited about TikTok rewards again.
However, it comes with some stringent qualification rules. One of which is the limited available regions — only 7 countries are currently eligible for the program.
With that being said, the rewards of up to $1000 per million views have seen a lot of creators put in efforts to increase their earnings. If you’re looking to earn more, creating engaging videos is one sure way to do this.
